A Quick, Casual Word About Owner-Enforced Work Stoppage in Baseball
It's always so nice to see what happens when someone reveals their priorities. A team cheats to win the World Series, and, you know, hey, you shouldn't have done that. Minor league baseball teams exist, doing their thing for their local community in an unobtrusive way, often not losing money, and, hey, you’re not making baseball as much money as baseball would like, so you’re going to be shut down.
Sport belongs to the people. Everyone who voted to lock the people out of their own sport because they view the sport as a REIT with a team attached to it should take a hike. (I'm aware that the issue at hand appears to be that the owners are interested in preserving and heightening a pay structure that prioritizes stars and veterans over rookies and middle class players, but the impact is still the same: they are going where they think the money is.)
