CLIMATE —
I recently signed up to be a monthly donor to Climeworks, but I’m struck by how small the move feels, as well as how much more sense it makes for everyone, everywhere to be subjected a carbon tax to aid the transition to emission-negative energy. Like, hey, great, I’m pulling 15kg of CO2 out of the air every month … but I’d have to pull approximately 6,450kg of CO2 out of the air every month if I were to cover the cost of emissions for an average American family. And we can all see the climate-fueled disasters as they take place all over the world. And so our option is 15kg?
I’d be tempted to pair my Climeworks donation with sending money to Tradewater every month, but there has to be a more scalable option out there. (An ‘adopt a tree’ program modeled on how folks used to get tax breaks for installing solar panels? Something else?)

THE NBA ALL-STAR GAME SHOULD ABSOLUTELY DO ‘KING OF THE COURT’ —
Ever wanted to see Jokic and Embiid go at each other one-on-one? Remember how exciting it was when Giannis and LeBron started going at each other one-on-one at Staples? Want to see who can slow Kevin Durant down? Want to find a way to encourage more players to participate in something other than a dunk contest or a three-point contest?
Take a second to watch just a little bit of the video above and ask yourself — wouldn’t this make for a great addition to the All-Star Game?
AS FOR THE REST OF THE NBA TRADE DEADLINE: Derrick White is heading to Boston, and I’m quietly optimistic about that. (Comparing my reaction to the reaction of someone like Bill Simmons also emphasized to me how much more Spurs basketball I watch than the average ‘national media guy.’) Harden and Simmons have switched places, and it has me wondering what will happen to Tyrese Maxey. And the Los Angeles Lakers have apparently bought a NFT and are walking around their facilities, asking all and sundry, “Is this anything?”
I ALSO DECIDED TO DESCRIBE MY APPROACH TO SPORTS BETTING, which is something I’m starting to explore and is something which paying subscribers can see here.
